The Winding Road
The winding road is a simple metaphor for the journey of life. We believe that the winding road can be a meaningful and rewarding adventure. However we understand that at some stages along this journey many of us can find ourselves experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, abuse, grief or loss, stress, low self worth, alienation, anger, despair or confusion. The Winding Road Counselling Service believes that at these times often what a traveller needs is a companion. A companion’s (counsellor’s) role is to assist and support the traveller in reflecting on their journey both past and present, with a view towards a positive and meaningful road ahead.
Counselling is a professional
therapeutic relationship. Our
view of a counsellor is more akin to a ‘companion’ than an ‘expert’. A companion (counsellor) is someone who comes
from a place of non-judgement to join with you and take the time to listen and
understand where you are at. We do not
presume to be an ‘expert’ on your life and we respect the fact that your story
is completely unique. A companion is
willing to journey with you and reflect on the factors that have led you to
seek out counselling. A companion will be confidential, caring, supportive and
encouraging as you gain insights and courageously take new directions on life’s
journey.
